Holden Beach, the longest and largest of the three South Brunswick Islands, has a reputation as a quiet, family-oriented vacation destination with very little in the way of commercial development. National Geographic Traveler magazine rated Holden Beach one of the best family beaches in the country. The island has a 35-foot height limit for buildings, and most of the commercial property is on the mainland side of the Intra-Coastal Waterway.

Boating and Fishing

Holden Beach is a boater's paradise! Launch your craft from the Intracoastal Waterway and swing through the inlet heading due east for the Gulf Stream waters. If you don't have a boat there are several charters ready when you are! We recommend Captain Ron Arvidson of Swag Charters.

Historic Area

It's only a 45 minute drive northeast to historic downtown Wilmington, complete with Carriage Rides and River walk shopping. A 35 minute drive southwest will take you into the entertainment world of Myrtle Beach.

Turtle Sanctuary

The island is a sea turtle habitat and during the hatching season (May to October) those who don't mind staying up late into the night can witness one of nature's most interesting pleasures watching hundreds of small sea turtles "boil" out of the sand and march into the ocean waves. Golfing

There's lots of golfing to be found in the area! Click here for more information about golfing in Holden Beach and the surrounding Brunswick County area.
